JOY ADJEMIAN was born and raised in the beautiful island of Barbados and grew up training primarily in ballet and jazz from the age of 5 at The Dance Place. Joy was later introduced to modern, hip hop, different traditional African forms and Afro-Cuban, which provided vibrant, more grounded mediums of movement expression. Upon moving to Canada, Joy has studied at The School of Toronto Dance Theatre’s Professional Training Program and performed in Ballet Creole’s Winter 2013 and Spring 2014 seasons. A company member of the eclectic dance company COBA (Collective of Black Artists) for two years now, Joy has also worked closely with KasheDance Company and had the pleasure of performing with the ensemble in the Vanguardia Latin Dance Festival. Additionally, Joy is heavily involved in Toronto’s queer grassroots POC artistic community; volunteering and performing at various events throughout the GTA.
